News from Dafydd Probyn

Dafydd Probyn writes from Tallahassee, Florida. He lived for a while in Bangor St. near the old Police Station, just before the houses were demolished to make way for Bro Branwen. Readers might remember him as ‘Mochyn’ Probyn, but he would like to point out that this name refers to the fact that he kept a pig in the yard outside the cottage in Bangor St. and not to his enormous appetite or other disgusting habits. He adds that, anyway, his name should have been ‘Porchell’ Probyn which was a term of endearment given to him by his mother.

He is now retired but worked for many years in a fast-food restaurant and was, on several occasions, the employee of the month. He has lost a considerable amount of weight since he left Aberffraw and he now weighs 367½lbs (26¼ st) and is feeling much better for it. (This is lightweight by Tallahassee standards.)

Dafydd never got married, but he has recently become engaged to Lola, who he met via an online internet dating service. Lola comes from a small town a few miles away from Rangoon. Dafydd will soon be flying out to meet Lola for the first time. They plan to get married in an exotic ceremony on the beach. After he has arranged the necessary immigration papers for Lola, they intend to return to the USA. However, if the US immigration service is uncooperative, Dafydd is considering returning to Aberffraw, where he knows that he will receive a warm welcome.

He is also keen to make clear that the reason he left Aberffraw had nothing to do with either the incident with the trifle at the 1959 Christmas party or with problem with the donkey at the Aberffraw Carnival the following year.

Dafydd would like to be remembered by all of his friends in Aberffraw.
