Chief Technician Alwyn Jones.
Alwyn was recently awarded the Meritorious Medal, (See picture). To become eligable for this award a person must be a holder of the long service medal and the good conduct medal. Officers may be considered on one occasion only, and that is immediately after commissioning, providing they meet the criteria. The service board look for evidence of particular achievements whether in the course of military duty or in extra-mural involvement which benefits the public in the field of sport or such things as charitable work.

Alwyn took part in a three week trek to the Annapurno mountain in the year 2000 as part of a team of eleven which was organised by the Physical Education Flight at Akrotiri in Cyprus where he served two tours of duty. He also served at R.A.F. Valley Mountain Rescue as well as four tours in the Falklands, and was also part of the team that manned the Green Goddesses during the firemen's strike. Alwyn began his career at R.A.F. St. Athen in South Wales and has to date served 32 years service, which began when he was 18 years of age.
Alwyns parents are Mr & Mrs Cwyfan Jones of Bro Branwen. He was a pupil at Aberffraw Primary School and finished his education at Llangefni Secondary School.
