The Golden Jubilee (2009) Aberffraw Horticultural and Craft Show
August 31st 2009
The day of the show, the last day of August, was much like many days during the summer of 2009 - wet and windy. However, this did not stop a large number of people turning up for our 50th anniversary show. We were particularly pleased to welcome Medwyn
Williams (of Chelsea Flower Show fame) as our Golden Jubilee President.
He gave a well-prepared and well-received speech and he made a grand job of
presenting the prizes.
Mr & Mrs Williams being introduced by Chris Topps, Chairman of the Aberffraw Show Committee and Medwyn making his speech.
The weather has made the summer of 2009 one of the most disappointing in recent years. It has been, to put it mildly, a little dull. The sun has made only the occasional appearance and Aberffraw has been even windier than usual. However, we have had a lovely lot of rain. Overall, this has made growing conditions a little challenging and consequently the horticultural side of the show had fewer entries than in previous years.
However, this was made up for in the 'Craft' side of the show where we had lots of high quality entries, paticularly in the children's sections. There were more cakes and cookery entries than in recent years and the Art section was well represented.
